Ciao Everyone!
Saturday/Sunday
We made it to Italy! We left Fort Walton Beach, Florida Saturday the 21nd! Saying by to family has been the hardest part so far. I (Ashley) cried like a baby. I'll miss my mommy most of all (but wouldn't we all!) We had a few issues with our plane leaving on time, and getting our luggage. After a longggggg long time, we finally made it to Florence, Italy! Our new directors, Zak and Aleece, were at the airport waiting for us. It was nice to finally see a friendly face after everything. There is a 7 hour time difference between "home" and here, sooo we tried our hardest to stay awake until 9pm.
Monday
We woke up for devo at 7:30 to get our day started! At the Bible School, we will have devo every morning Monday-Friday to get our minds ready for the day. We then went to City Hall in Scandicci to check-in with the authorities. We also stopped by the post office to get our Permission to Stay packet. Although we have a visa, that really only got us in the country (and got us our packets). The cook, Rosa, made us a wonderful lunch yesterday of salmon lasagna, chicken, and roasted potatoes. I (Ashley) was able to sit in on a lesson with Claire and an Italian student. It was AMAZING! If I can teach half as well as Claire, I'll be proud of myself. We got a new card for our phones, making them Italian! If you have an Iphone and would like to text us sometime (or Facetime), email us and ask us for our new numbers. We had dinner and a devo in English with other Italians at 7:30. Nathan was happy because he was able to get himself invited during dinner to play in the Scandicci community band. After a busy day, we were happy to sleep!
Tuesday
We, sadly, missed morning devo to go into Florence. I saw the Duomo di Firenze for the first time and my heart dropped. I will be back!!!!! We got there super early to apply for our "social security number" of Italy. Once we filled out that paperwork, we got a stamp for our packet. We finished filling out our packets and took them to the post office to pay for them and mail it. Zak took us on a tour of Scandicci to show us all the good places to eat, buy coffee, and purchase things. We've been hanging out ever since! (Taking naps, playing games, eating...) We got together with Caleigh and Richard, another couple that came to Italy in September, to eat dinner! We, of course, had to get PIZZA!
These are just a few days in the life of someone moving to Italy!
Thank you
Obviously we were sad to say bye, but we want to say THANK YOU to everyone who has/is supporting us! We COULD NOT do this without you. We need you, so thank you.
-Thank you to all our monthly and one-time supporters. We LOVE YOU.
-Thank you to Shayne and Becky for allowing us to stay so long. We enjoyed our time together (and saving money)!!!!
-Thank you to Mom and Dad for being so generous. We appreciate you letting us leave out things at your house. We couldn't do this without you. Thank you for being so supportive.
Ciao for now!
Ashley
